Lake Turkana
Lake Turkana is known to be the world’s largest permanent desert lake and also the most largest alkaline lake. It is located in Turkana County. It was originally formally referred to as Lake Rudolf. It gets its turquoise like appearance from a distance due to the algae in the lake that rises to the surface when the lake is calm thus christened the Jade Sea.
Several anthropological digs have led to the lake area being referred to as The Cradle of Mankind. There are three National Parks bordering the Lake Turkana have been named UNESCO world heritage sites. The parks serve as a stopover for migrant waterfowl and are major breeding grounds for the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus and a variety of venomous snakes.
